Fall Reflections

Do Now: Invent a new type of fruit. What does it look like? What does it taste like? What is it called?

"Banapgo: Banana, apple, mango"

"My fruit is called BoomaClaw. It looks like a boomerang and claw combined. It tastes like whatever you want it to. All you have to do is think."

"t tastes like Pecan Pie with grape in it. I will name it Gravocado."

"Hemmings. Hemmings would taste like Pepsi."

"My fruit is called Chapple. It tastes like chocolate covered apples."

"The fruit looks like a rhombus. The fruit tastes sour. I will name the fruit Boom Cha-ca-laca!"

Today, the 3rd and 4th grade began a fall crafts unit. As the leaves change color and the weather cools, the outdoors are even more beautiful and inspiring than ever! For the next week or so, the lower school will focus on this wonderful change and make some fall crafts.

To begin, we read the book "Hello, Harvest Moon" by Ralph Fletcher. The book has beautiful painted illustrations of colorful trees, pumpkins, and other harvest-related images.

Our first project is a painting of autumn trees reflecting in water, similar to this photograph.

This project will take us two days. Today, students received a piece of white paper, folded horizontally.

They first had to paint autumn trees on the top half of the paper above the crease, then fold the piece of paper along the crease to create a symmetrical mirror image along the bottom.

After these trees dry, we will paint the sky and water in watercolors - check the blog next Tuesday to see the final results.

For now, check out the first part of our tree reflection project...
