World Art: Australia
Do Now: Would you rather go forward in time to the future, or back in time to the past? Why? Draw and write!
Today the 1st and 2nd grade moved on to a new place, the only location that is both a country and a continent: Australia!
After looking at a map of Australia, we read Ready to Dream by Donna Jo Napoli and Elena Furrow.
We studied the illustrations by Bronwyn Bancroft and compared them to classic Australian paintings. The Aboriginal people are native Australians, and just like Bancroft they use natural colors and dots to create beautiful paintings.
Many Aboriginal paintings are of nature, so we decided to make dot paintings of natural objects. We used Q-tips to get the dots just right!
