Europe: England
Do Now: Draw yourself if your parents were aliens.
Today, the 1st and 2nd grade continued their study of Europe, focusing on the country of England.
We learned where England is, as well as a few major symbols and landmarks. We looked at photos of Big Ben…
…and of the famous British Telephone Booths
Then, we learned about daily life in England from our special guest, Mrs. Marston! Mrs. Marston, the mother of 3 Harlem Academy students, grew up in England.
She talked about growing up in England, going to primary school, and her favorite British foods. She was also very willing to answer the many questions the 1st and 2nd graders had about life in England.
Mrs. Marston also brought us some British 'biscuits', or cookies.
They were delicious! She told us that she and her friends used to call the chocolate Bourbon cookies "doggies", because they looked like dog treats.
Before she left, Mrs. Marston taught us the British equivalents for some common American English words.
For our art projects, the 1st and 2nd graders drew either a picture of Big Ben or of a British Telephone Booth using colored pencils. Then, they cut out their pictures and glued them to colorful construction paper.
Thank you so much for coming in Mrs. Marston! To see more photos, check out Harlem Academy's Facebook Page .
