Complementary Colors

Do Now: Draw what you would like to do on your next birthday.

Now that the 3rd and 4th graders have learned about primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors, and cool colors, it is time for them to learn one last group: complementary colors.

Complementary colors are colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel - colors that complement each other!

The complementary color pairs are:

Red and Green

Blue and Orange

Yellow and Purple

Today, students began a complementary color project that they will complete next Tuesday. The finished product will look something like this:

First students traced their hands...

Then used a ruler to make lines across the page...

After choosing a pair of complementary colors, students began the tricky task of coloring in the lines while alternating colors.

Check in Tuesday evening to see the finished products!
