Patricia Polacco
In preparation for our two upcoming artist visitors, the 1st and 2nd grade spent the majority of classes writing questions for our guests. This Friday we will get to meet illustrator Leslie Cober-Gentry, and next monday we will speak with animator Jonathan Rosen.
Take a look at some of the thoughtful questions our students came up with…
For the remainder of class, we took a look at the work of Patricia Polacco. We read her book "G is for Goat" and observed how she makes her drawings. Polacco seems to use pen and water colors to make her illustrations. Our project today focused on the expressive characters that Polacco creates in her drawings - it is very clear how each character feels because of the detailed expressions drawn on their faces.
Students had a chance to choose a few emotions and try to illustrate them the way Polacco does. We paid attention to eyebrows, mouths, cheeks, and eye shape, in order to make our sketches as expressive as they could be.
